The Riegelschwendi Mountain pass is asphalted, but narrow, winding and without a central reservation. The route requires a precise driving style and is therefore more suitable for advanced drivers. In summer, the roads can sometimes be dirty due to haymaking by farmers.
There is only one access road to the Mountain pass from St. Peterzell, while on the other side there are several routes from Neu St. Johann, Krummenau or Ebnat-Kappel. All access routes are roughly equally challenging.
