Route details

A Tour from Munich through the foothills of the Bavarian Alps with stops in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kreuth am Tegernsee and Lake Chiemsee. The route combines foothills of the Alps, several lakes and well-maintained Country roads.

The Tour starts in Munich and first heads south towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The section through the foothills of the Alps runs mainly on well-maintained federal and state roads with a moderate number of bends. The route initially offers flat to slightly hilly terrain with views of the Alpine chain.

From Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Route leads eastwards through Werdenfelser Land. This area is characterized by wide, well-maintained roads. The roads are mostly asphalted and in good condition. In the area between Garmisch and the Tegernsee valley, the number of bends increases noticeably.

The central part of the Tour leads via Kreuth am Tegernsee. The B307 through the Tegernsee valley offers a varied route with long Curves and occasional tighter radii. The road surface is good and the road width is sufficient for safe driving throughout. Traffic is particularly heavy at weekends and on public holidays.

The onward journey eastwards to Lake Chiemsee leads through the Chiemgau Alpine foothills. Gentle hills, forest sections and wide meadows dominate here. The roads are less alpine in character, but offer smooth riding fun on winding Country roads. The final section to Prien am Chiemsee is relatively relaxed on wide state roads.

Relevant information for motorcyclists: The Route is suitable for beginners and touring riders. Technically demanding passages are largely absent. Speed limits must be observed, controls are common, especially on popular sections of the route. The road surface is generally good, but there may be patches or slight road damage in places.

The landscape alternates between the foothills of the Alps, lakeside scenery and Bavarian cultural landscape. There are suitable places to take a break at the lakes and in the villages along the route. The total distance of around 232 kilometers can easily be covered as a day tour with several stops. An early start is recommended to beat the tourist traffic.
