Route details

This 168 km route leads from Stuttgart via the university town of Tübingen and the northern Black Forest to Titisee in the Upper Black Forest. A varied Tour through the changing landscapes of Baden-Württemberg.

The Tour starts in the south of Stuttgart and initially leads along country and federal roads to Tübingen. The first section runs through the Neckar foreland with moderate curves and good traffic flow outside rush hour. Tübingen itself is worth a short Detour: the historic old town with its half-timbered houses, the market square and the Neckar front is one of the best preserved in Baden-Württemberg.

From Tübingen, the route heads southwest towards the Black Forest. At Schömberg, you reach the northern Black Forest at an altitude of around 650 meters. The spa town is known for its healing climate and the 55-metre-high Himmelsglück observation tower, which offers views as far as the Swabian Alb and the Vosges mountains. From here, the characteristic Black Forest section begins with narrow valleys, wooded slopes and increasingly winding roads.

The route continues southwards through typical Black Forest scenery: dense coniferous forests alternate with open meadow valleys, small villages are scattered in the valleys. The roads are mostly well asphalted, but narrow in places. The combinations of bends become more intense, but do not require Hairpin bends or extreme Lean angles. The difference in altitude adds up to several hundred meters.

The destination, Titisee-Neustadt, lies at an altitude of around 850 m in the Upper Black Forest. The Titisee itself was formed by glacial movements during the last ice age around 10,000 years ago. It is around 1.3 km long and up to 40 m deep. The lakeside road is a popular promenade, but can be very busy at weekends and in the high season. Nearby is the Feldberg, at 1,493 m the highest mountain in the Black Forest and the highest point in Baden-Württemberg.

Road conditions are mostly good along the entire route, with occasional patches on secondary roads. Traffic volume: heavy at times in the greater Stuttgart and Tübingen area, moderate to light in the Black Forest. Motorcycle bans apply on some Black Forest routes at weekends and on public holidays - check before setting off. The Tour is suitable for riders with some experience, but does not make any special technical demands.
