Route details

Experience a spectacular motorcycle tour from the port metropolis of Bari deep into the heart of the Gargano National Park, where rugged coastal roads meet mystical forest passages. This route combines the best of Puglia: salty sea air, endless combinations of bends and the spiritual tranquillity of the southern Italian mountains.

This Tourer is a declaration of love to freedom on two wheels and takes you from the vibrant capital of Apulia, Bari, directly to one of Italy's most fascinating motorcycle regions: the Gargano, also known as the "spur" of the Italian boot. Shortly after the start in Bari, you leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind you and swap the Motorway for the freedom of the coast.

The absolute highlight for every motorcyclist is the Strada Provinciale 53 between Mattinata and Vieste. This route is considered one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Europe. Here, the asphalt clings to the white limestone cliffs like a gray ribbon, while deep below you the turquoise sea lashes against the cliffs. Every Curve opens up a new view of hidden bays, lonely watchtowers from the Middle Ages and the famous "Trabucchi" - historic wooden constructions built by fishermen that rise above the water like giant spider legs. The scent of wild rosemary and pine trees mingles with the salty breeze as you lie down on the Lean angle.

Once you arrive in Vieste, it's worth making a short stop at the "Pizzomunno", the striking 25-metre-high monolith on the beach, before the route turns inland. Here the scenery changes abruptly: the coast gives way to the "Foresta Umbra", the shadow forest. Temperatures drop pleasantly and the road winds its way through dense beech and oak forests, which provide a cool canopy even in midsummer. It is an almost mystical experience when the light only occasionally breaks through the dense canopy of leaves.

Via Apricena, known for its fine marble, the route finally leads up to San Giovanni Rotondo. The landscape becomes more barren and rugged here, characterized by the vast plateaus of the Gargano massif. The air is clear and the views over the Gulf of Manfredonia are breathtaking in good Weather. This Tourer is not only a challenging ride with its variety of curves, but also a journey through the contrasts of Apulia - from the wild Adriatic Sea to the spiritual silence of the mountains. An experience that stays in your Tyre and in your memory.
