A Tourer with lots of Curves, Alpine panoramas and culinary highlights. Starting in Lucerne, the route takes in the Brünig, Jaun and Schallenberg passes - with "Bruce" always ready for the next adventure.
I started in Lucerne. After "Bruce" (my bike) had quenched his thirst, I set off via the Scenic Route through Hergiswil along Lake Alpnach towards Sarnen-Giswil-Lungern.
The first highlight: a breathtaking panorama of the Alps and lakes. The winding route makes for a brisk ride. Before Giswil, I took the tunnel bypass - after that, magnificent views open up over Lake Lungern and the mountains.
The ascent to the Brünig Pass is winding and pleasant. Halfway up there is a Viewpoint with a top panorama - make sure you stop! The descent: spectacular, with rocks on one side and a view of the valley on the other.
Due to the length of the ride, we continued via the Expressway to Spiez, then through the long Simmental valley towards Wimmis. It feels like an endless valley, but it never gets boring and you never get enough of the view. The road to the Jaun Pass allows for a speedy ride over the pass and "Bruce" and I really enjoyed the tighter Curves - they are very nice to ride. Before reaching the Pass summit, it's worth taking a Detour to the Viewpoint - a view of the entire Simmental valley.
The Jaun Pass is also manageable for less experienced riders. In the Fribourg region, long, gentle curves make for a fun ride. Via Ringgenberg we headed towards Thun - I deliberately skipped the Gurnigel today.
Instead, the Schallenberg was on the agenda. Little traffic, clear road to the Langenegg plain. If you like, turn off into Eriz for a legendary "Chässchnitte" - my tip: with creamy slices 😉
As the meeting point at the top of Schallenberg was full, I continued straight on via Schangnau to Marbach. At the Langnau/Schüpfheim junction, make sure you stop at the Egghus snack bar - the Egghus burger is world class!
From Wolhusen, I took the Expressway to Blatten for traffic reasons (yes ok, for convenience). If you like, you can drive via Schwarzenberg - but I wanted to try the newly upgraded Rengg to Kriens, where "Bruce" and I treated ourselves to a drink at the Petrol station.
