Route details

This tour through the Aosta Valley is not about speed, but about great alpine scenery: wide meadows, narrow mountain valleys, waterfalls and villages made of stone and wood. If you really want to experience the landscape on a motorcycle, you will find some of the most impressive scenery in the region between Cogne, Valgrisenche and Rhêmes-Notre-Dame.

This Tour through the Aosta Valley is perfect for motorcyclists who don't just want to cover a route, but want to immerse themselves in the landscape along the way. Even the start near Aosta opens up a view of a region in which alpine expanses and wild mountain scenery constantly alternate. Instead of a classic pass circuit, the focus here is on experiencing entire valleys: each with its own character, its own atmosphere and its own views.

The scenery changes noticeably towards Cogne. The valley appears greener, wider and at the same time more sheltered, almost like a natural amphitheater on the edge of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The landscape around Cogne is characterized by large meadows, dark forests and steep mountain slopes. The proximity to the high mountains is particularly impressive: watercourses, alpine pastures and the typical stone and wooden houses give this section an almost timeless Alpine atmosphere. Places like Valnontey act as a gateway to a quieter, more pristine mountain world where you can quickly leave everyday life behind.

With Valgrisenche, the Tourer becomes rougher and more alpine. The valley seems more remote, more rugged and quieter, which is precisely what makes it so attractive. The landscape here is dominated by rock faces, waterfalls, the Beauregard reservoir and the proximity to the Ruitor massif. Again and again there are panoramas that are perfect for a break with views of glaciers, alpine pastures and mountain ridges high above the valley. Valgrisenche is not a place of grand scenery alone, but also of a special tranquillity: a valley that leaves plenty of space to consciously perceive the mountains.

Rhêmes-Notre-Dame brings a different atmosphere to the tour. The valley is one of the quietest and most natural corners of the Aosta Valley. Small hamlets, meadows, larch forests and the close proximity to the national park give this section a pristine feel. Motorcyclists in particular, who appreciate the feeling of being out in the middle of nature, experience the Aosta Valley from its gentle, almost meditative side here. The mixture of rural culture, old village centers and untouched mountain landscape makes this part of the Tour particularly atmospheric.

What remains at the end is the impression of an exceptionally varied tour of the Alps: not loud, not over-staged, but genuine. This Tour combines the experience of nature, vastness and alpine authenticity - exactly the kind of route that motorcyclists will remember for a long time to come.
