Route details

A Round trip through the western Tyrolean and Vorarlberg Alps, connecting two well-known Pass roads: the winding Flexenpass with its characteristic galleries and the technically demanding Hahntennjoch.

The Tour starts in Reutte in the Ausserfern and first heads south through the Gurgltal valley to Nassereith. From there, the route continues towards Imst and then onto the Hahntennjoch - one of the most famous motorcycle routes in the Austrian Alps. The Mountain pass lies at an altitude of 1,894 meters, stretches for around 30 kilometers and has gradients of up to 19 percent. The road is completely asphalted, but relatively narrow with numerous blind Curves. Trucks, buses and caravans are banned here, which makes the route more attractive for motorcyclists. However, there is a noise restriction for motorcycles with a stationary noise level of more than 95 dB(A). At weekends and during the vacation season, increased traffic volumes and regular police checks are to be expected. From the Hahntennjoch, the route heads west through the Lechtal valley to St. Anton am Arlberg. The route then follows the Arlberg Pass, a classic Alpine crossing at 1,806 meters that connects Tyrol and Vorarlberg. The Pass road is well developed, wide and clear with wide curves. Speed limits of 60 to 80 km/h must be observed throughout. The route to the Flexenpass branches off from the Arlberg at Alpe Rauz and leads to Lech. The Flexenpass reaches an altitude of 1,773 meters and is characterized by its striking galleries carved into the rock. The route is around 20 kilometers long and well developed, with round and clean curves. In the gallery sections, light changes can affect visibility. The area around Lech is heavily frequented by tourists, so traffic is to be expected. Via Lech and Warth, the route finally returns to the Lech Valley and Höfen near Reutte. The Tour offers a mixture of technically demanding sections on the Hahntennjoch and smoother passages on the Arlberg and Flexenpass. The road conditions are good to good throughout. Weather changes are possible at any time due to the altitude. The best time to travel is between May and October, although the Hahntennjoch has a seasonal Winter closure. All in all, a varied route that offers panoramic views of the Lechtal Alps as well as driving challenges.
