Route details

This Tourer takes you from Chur through Italy and back again - don't forget the Mountain pass!

The tour starts in Chur. The Tourer takes you along Main road 3 via Churwalden and Lenzerheide over the Lenzerheide Pass down to the village of Albula. At the fork in the road, head towards the Albula Pass. The Pass road has no central reservation up to the Pass summit, but is in good condition.

On the Albula Pass, a stop at the Albula Hospiz is highly recommended. The food is good and there are lots of like-minded people to meet during the motorcycle season.

The onward journey takes you down to La Punt and along the Main road towards the Maloja Pass and over to Italy. The curve induction on the Maloja Pass is short and intense with 22 curves in a very tight space.

A little tip: On the Maloja it is worth taking a look at the Belvedere tower. Despite its medieval appearance, it was only built in 1882. The eccentric Belgian Count Camille de Renesse planned to build his castle residence here, but soon ran out of money.

After the Maloja Mountain pass, you will soon need your ID or Mountain pass. The route heads towards Italy through the Bergell valley to Chiavenna. From here, the Tourer takes you north through the Valle San Giacomo up the winding Splügen Pass back to Switzerland. It is a challenging Mountain pass, the curves are super tight in places, but the roads are in good condition.

Fun fact: The road over the Mountain pass consists of 74 Hairpin bends, 52 of which are on the Italian side and 23 on the Swiss side.

After the village of Splügen, you soon come to the Crestawald Fortress Museum, originally a top-secret fortress bunker and artillery works. If you want to visit the museum, you should definitely visit https://www.crestawald.ch/ beforehand.

Just before Thusis is the Viamala Gorge, a wonder of nature. Beautiful. If you don't know it yet, you should definitely pay it a visit!

After Thusis, the Tourer leads through the Domleschg via Bonaduz back to Chur, all on overland roads.
