3 Mountain passes in the northern Bernese Oberland

Route details

The Tourer leads over the 3 Mountain passes Schallenbergpass, Glaubenbüelenpass and Brünigpass through the northern Bernese Oberland, the Entlebuch and through the Haslital.

The Tourer starts in Thun and leads via Steffisburg to the Schallenberg Pass. The Pass road is in good condition on both sides, has a central reservation throughout and is pleasant to ride on. A visit to the Gabelspitz Restaurant on the Schallenberg is worthwhile, as you will meet like-minded people there. Additional parking is available for motorcyclists and the food is delicious.

From there, the route leads via Schangnau down to Entlebuch in the canton of Lucerne. Along Main road no. 10, you reach Schüpfheim, where the route turns right and leads to the next Pass road. You reach the canton of Obwalden via Sörenberg. The ascent to the Glaubenbühl Pass is pleasant, while the descent is winding and has no central reservation. However, the road is wide and the surface is good.

After arriving in Giswil, the Tourer heads uphill past Lake Lunger to the Brünig Pass. This Main road is winding but wide. Unfortunately, the Pass road is very busy during the week.
If you are planning a visit to the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum, you should allow plenty of time, as it is impressive - a huge museum with Swiss farmhouses from different eras.

In the Haslital, the Tourer continues on Bernese soil via Brienz along Main road no. 6 along the shores of Lake Brienz. This is a pleasant Cruiser with beautiful views.
After passing through Interlaken, the route leads along Lake Thun on the main road/lake road 221 back to Thun.

The Tour is generally pleasant to ride and also suitable for newcomers to the Handlebars.
The 3 Mountain passes on this Tour are open all year round.
